Rush of cards

Didnt really feel like grinding away at poker last night so decided to play in a private tourney with my fellow Dbpoker members. I recommend checking it out at dbpoker.com where are small group of like-minded people discuss all things poker. The tourney had 34 people playing for a $10+1 buy-in which I was bounced out halfway through. Seeing as the night was still early I decided to try a little grind figuring there wasnt much else to do.

Was a good night and apart from a couple of hands early I pretty much folded away junk for the whole session. After about 60mins of this folding the rush came...In the space of 19 hands over two tables I got QQ once, KK, thrice and AA twice. Unfortunately none of them paid off as everyone either folded PF or on the flop. But one hand paid off nicely - see below.

The flop was pretty good for me but any JT hand now had a straight, so I intended to play it with some caution. Turn was the lovely K so even if a straight was out there I now had a quarter chance to boat on the river. If you note, Seat 8 checked and called the flop and then lead the turn, this is almost always a sign of a strong hand so I needed to be cautious of the made straight. I decided to make a raise on top of his though to see what he did. They all call and checked to me on the river. I still wasnt sure the straight wasnt made so I value bet an amount which wasnt so much I couldnt get away from but was good enough to make a nice pot if I was the strongest. How would you others have bet and raised this pot?

Here is another example hand why not to slowplay...

Turnkey played this wrong on several levels. One he slowplayed the flop with the nuts and his bet was so insignificant that I was fine to call for $2 thinking maybe I'll get my miracle T or even that an Ace will make my hand good. Sure enough the miracle Ten is what I got. Even with that T now on the board he still has the second nut yet he chose to bet a super small amount which I raised as I now had the nuts. On the river the board paired and flushed which means I no longer have the nuts and neither does he and this is the time he decides to raise big?! - big mistake. I called as he feasibly could've had me beat now but I was certainly going to call. I love these chimps :-)

I ended my playing session after no more than 90 mins for a $240 profit - very nice thankyou.
